case 2290 pto stuck on

Hello,

Have a 1981 Case 2290. The pto will not shut off. The 3 point hitch will not lower either. Checked the cable from the PTO to the valve, it seems to move freely

Any suggestions? Might be operator error. I haven"t drove the tractor yet. It is new to me.

Check to see that the 3pt. cable is moving. The pto probably needs clutch plates and maybe a new brake.

thanks for the reply. I was thinking it might have something do with the brake from reading on other boards. The service manual is in the mail.

Can you replace the clutch and brake by taking the back cover off? Or do you have to split the tractor?

Yes, Drain the hyd. oil and remove the pto housing to repair.
