Joe thanks the reply I seem to having trouble with securing the adjusting screw are the special screws or available at a good hardware store?

No Chuck, it is not really a screw. It is just a rotating screw type head that is swaged on the other side of the plate (underneath). It is not meant to be a separate, replaceable part of the plate.

I'll get back to you tonight or tomorrow with some pics. I most likely have a complete plate I can give you. If I have one it will be out of the Autolite IAD-6003 series dist, factory for 300's

The adjusting screw does not tighten, it is free turning as you can see it is swaged (flared) on the bottom end like a hollow shank rivet.

To set the points, get a rough gap on the shy side of 0.020" and snug down the locking screw just enough to hold it. Turn the adjusting screw in the direction to widen the gap out to 0.020" and tighten down the locking screw.

The adjustment screw head is now up against the stationary arm. This helps prevent the arm from working loose under the locking screw as the points make & break.

If you need the plate in the pic, send me an e:mail with a mailing address and I will get it off to you sometime in the next few daysjlb323AThughes.net

Joe thanks that explains whats happening, the adj screw rises and does not adj properly the peening must be wore out. can I remove the bottom plate and repair or place it?
Thanks
Chuck

Yes, you can easily pull the plate and check it out. The odds are the adj screw shank is worn from engine vibration.

The plate in the pic below is in good shape it has less than 50 hrs on it. I changed my 310 to electronic ignition and this original plate is not used.

I have 3 tractors that take the IAD-6003 distributor all changed to electronic. I have one points distributor for a spare and don't need the plate in the pic.

You can have it, all I need is a mailing address.

OK the plate is in the mail to the address you posted. Postmaster couldn't find your address, said it would probably end up at the post office in Baldwinville.

If you don't get it sometime next week, let me know.

Joe

Joe received the plate today by 9am post office must thought it was very important package, usually mail comes after 1pm on Mondays. That was fast
Thanks
Chuck
