Leaking Sleeve O-Rings

DKase asked if I had a problem with leaking o-rings after an overhaul.... No I haven't, I fill the tractors with a diesel grade premix coolant. Hard tap water cannot be good for rubber. They claim to spend as much on purifying the water as what they do the coolant.

That fleet guard is some good stuff. Dealership I worked at used it and never had issues with it. I run it in some of my vehicles after cleaning out the Dexcool junk.

Our CaseIH dealer carries the Compleat in bulk, its the only thing I have used in 15 yrs. Good stuff, but like oils it does not last forever. Owners must change it as recommended.

I have rain water on tap in my house so that is what I use to dilute the anti freeze. I use the water conditioner in all my diesels, and gas truck engines. I have done dozens, and dozens of resleeves on diesels, and have had only one start seeping. It is the 336 in the W14, and the kit came with those CHEAP head gaskets that leaked. I used the special sleeve O-ring lube that is made for that purpose. I am wondering if the O-rings were just as cheap. If it was as simple as a tractor I would have had it repaired by now. When I do get to it this spring I will let you know what I find.

Who knows how clean rain water is anymore. I don't think I would be putting it in an Oh'ed engine or distilled water from a grocery store for that matter. We are talking about pennies compared to an OH. To each their own I guess.Let us know your findings

Did you know that rain drops are Gods way of purifying the air. Each tiny particle of air pollution is a catalyst for the formation of rain drops as the humidity reaches 100%. Liquid molecules of water are attracted to the particle of pollution. A large percent of rain drops contain ONE particle of pollution.

We have heard of acid rain. That means the particles of pollution are an acid that had been swept up high into the atmosphere. The exhaust NOX is a common acid particle.

The bottom line is be careful what you do with rain water. Soil is a great filter. Often, we add lime to the soil to neutralize what the rain drops have brought back to earth.
