looking to purchase a case 1490 tractor, has a problem with transmission will not release when pedal is pushed? is this a good tractor does it have any typical problem areas? Thanks

Being 30 plus years old, condition and prior care are everything.

Hydraulic clutch? Could be something as simple as being out of fluid in the master cylinder(use oil, not brake fluid). Worst case I can think of is the throwout bearing going out and trashing the pressure plate. Taking the round cover off the bottom of the clutch housing will tell you if you have a major problem.

A 1490 is British built by DB. Only normal issues are those common to all Brit equipment, oil leaks, and a Lucas Electrical system.

It could just be to little oil in the clutch-system. Itś in the cabin behind the dashboard. Check which is for brake-fluid and which is for clutch-fluid.
Under the left foot-step of the cabin you will see the cylinder for the clutch. Maybe you will have to let some air out with the air-screw on the cylinder. I think you will be able to se that cylinder moves when someelse sits in the cabin and press the clutch.
