DC 4

Have a DC 4 with the cast iron heart front axle mount and the casting Is broken out where the pin goes through the axle.I'm thinking that was a weak point,not sure but have seen several pics on this site and several look like they may have been replaced because they look like they have been painted.I use mine the way it is because the axle can't go any place.Thanks for any replys.Ron

Ron, not sure if it's still there but just North of Billings a ways on the way to Moccasin or there abouts is a couple "DC's along the road and one had a heart shaped front axle, they looked like they had sat a long time, been a few years since I was by there though

I have a heart front casting that the bottom pieces under the pin broke off and someone repaired it by putting them back in place and running straps under them and welding them in place. It worked and doesn't look too bad at all. Don

My DC-4 heart-shaped bracket had been broken and had a strap wrapped around it that was bolted to the bracket to hold the pin in place. It needs a strap to hold it in place in case you hit a hole or the front wheels raise off the ground. I think it takes a pretty hard lick to break the heart shape bracket.
The bracket can be welded fairly easily.
I took my bracket off, and ground it smooth. I then took a piece of round stock bored a 1" hole for the pin in it and cut a half moon section out of it. I ground a vee in it to weld it.
I probably spent 8 -10 hrs welding it up, but it is not noticeable now.

Nick, I have one of those front ends but it is missing the RH spindle steering arm, I was thinking they are different than the regular std wide front end from a DC-4 or am I thinking wrong will they interchange? if they don't I have a front end that is just parts thanks
