Do not slip that foot clutch with the loader on. Those pressure plates are quite tempermental when it comes to heat. They crack and break in half. I am putting power steering on one of mine in the next week or two. I will let you know how it turns out. Is it the DC4 with the heart front end? It seems about 1/2 of the foot clutch models are. DK

just standard plow front wide non adj. You are very correct on foot clutch . That's why I an not fully decided on using for loader. Now loader is on 49 DC. I added live hyd to old one witn power steering from case combine, using valve in steering rod, Also went to hyd cylinder to tie rod. I have 2 mag drive hyd pumps in front of mag. Just not as good with just 2 arms any more. Mounted 2 spool hyd valve on pedestal just to right of steering wheel.. This was done years ago using loader arms I built.How are u powering your power steering? What kind of control valve ?

I thought all DC"s had oil bath clutches? Are the DC foot clutch ones dry? If oil bath why can"t it take slipping like the hand clutch? The foot clutch 930 six speed is oil bath and on the eight speed dry. I can"t figure out why Case dropped the oil bath clutch. Maybe someone on this forum can tell me the downside to a oil bath clutch and why they didn"t continue it in all standard trans. tractors.

DC hand clutch is 11", and foot clutch is 12". They are both wet clutches. I am not sure if it is a casting flaw in the 12" foot clutches or the material they were casted from. But both of my 54 DC4 foot clutch tractors had the pressure plates that were broken in 1/2 from heat cracks caused by loader use. Parts for them cannot be found so I welded them back together myself. I do have a loader on one of mine, but I only use it for forks, and scaffolding.

I also find it interesting about slipping a foot clutch. Grandpa had a loader on my DC, its a foot clutch, and I know for a fact that he slipped it bad for 10 years. I still slip it pretty bad when I use it on the Bushhog, mowing cedar trees. I am pretty sure it has never had any form of clutch work done to it.
And yes Jimmie, they are an oil clutch.

change the oil in the clutch housing , flush

with kero , the sludge will make it slip.

Learned that back in the 50's.

If there is sludge in the clutch housing it means you did not drain the oil out at every oil change or you used poor oil or did not change oil often enough. Dad did not like to use detergent oil, but detergent oil will keep engines clean.

My foot clutch dc has been on the loader for all my life at least and still has the same clutch in it. It may well be broke in half, but it still works. Never heard that before. I wonder how common that is?
