NC or Bust! - Minnesota

Headed East on I-90 and soon entered Minnesota. As evidenced by their welcome sign, I observed that somebody had the fore thought to make their southern border with Iowa nice and flat compared to all the jaggedy borders on the rest of it. A pretty handy deal when you want to make a cutout of your state and prop it up for a sign. We went East as far as Albert Lea. They just got 7-8 inches of snow that afternoon. Cars in the ditches here and there and roads were slippery. We decided to head south to get out of the snow but we stopped at a gas station first and I noticed this flyer on the bulletin board. Looks as if the Minnesotans don't wait for nice weather to parade their tractors. Maybe we could all learn from them that if you can't beat Old Man Winter, then you just as well learn to live with him! But I do have to say that in S.Dak., we would at least wait till after noon to go ride when the temps reach a balmy 20* vs. 9:00 am. when its still below -0. I don't know if those boys are that much tougher or just not as smart??? JK JK

Brad, enjoying the story and pics, that Mn sign I seen last fall for the first time brought back memories of the trip as well as meeting you and seeing your fine collection as well as everyone else we seen on the trip

We minnesoootans like to get our tractor drivin done early so it don't interfere with our bear drinkin.

Thanks Tom. I sure did enjoy meeting you and Rod and seeing some old friends as well. I did wish we had a little more time though. It was kind of a hurried day. Next time you get back this way we'll have to do it again!

Brad I too want to do it again soon, maybe I can work it out to come up during harvest and get some seat time in your BIG combine!! I hope you do not mind me posting these pics take care hope to see you soon

I have had the Case out in the snow three times this winter just for fun. The first time it was out, it was probably -15*.

I guess the fact that I took my motorcycle around the block the other day (at about 12 degrees), was a little nuts. But I always get my first ride in during the month of February, ever since I have started riding in 2008. Am I crazy? Ya sure, youbetcha! Ha ha ha.

Love the bike Ken! Always liked the look of an all black machine. Second choice would be Flambeau!
Temps were in the 60s while I was in NC. Saw quite a few bikes on the road there but not a one in Missouri or Tennessee, even though I thought it might be warm enough for a die hard biker to take a spin.

A flambeau bike, you say? Hmmmm... I wonder if anyone has ever done that before? :) The above was a picture of my first bike: a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. It's amazing what a little leftover tractor paint will do!

Temps in the 60's? I'd be riding all over!

No I don't mind. Hey! Maybe your onto something here. You in my combine. I know Steve knows how to drive truck. Put John in the grain cart tractor. Rod could man the fuel truck with all the tools. Wifey could bring lunches and run for parts. If anybody else want to help, they could chase the combine working stubble. I could sit in the pickup and watch from the headland. This could work!!!

OOPS! That's not my grain cart! How'd that get on there?

Just funning with you all. This thing in called a Field Bin. Made in Australia. I suspect turn around time for a truck from field to elevator could be a bit long in that part of the world. So they park this on the end of the field and dump their grain cart (Chaser Bin) into it. Holds 4,370 bu. I'm sure they're not meant to be moved when loaded.
Don't worry JD fans. They paint them green too!

Here's the "Chaser Bin". They make them a bit different down there. Carts around here wouldn't stay together if they had a suspension... the way they get buried from time to time.
