Linda and I took a few days for ourselves and jumped in the truck ,and pointed it south. When I got up this morning ,My first duty is to check on the truck ie. oil, tires, and belts. Well on the way back to the motel room, I spied a penny, heads up on the pavement. Well being the son of a sharecropper, I picked it up. Now, to those guys and gals under the age of 35 years old, and I know your out there reading this, What is significant of the act of picking this penny up? You older guys give the younger ones a chance to figure this one out . Have a Great day. Chuck 71* this morning!

Never pick up a penny it won't buy anything, it takes more time to stop and pick it up than the penny is worth. Having said that I never walk by a penny. If you pick up enough of anything and hang onto it long enough someday someone will want it.

Find a penny pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck. Unless they had the flu when they dropped it, then you'll think twice if it made "cents".

My wife always picks them up and has a little saying when she does so. I also never thought they were worth the time to pick up, Rod.

I always pick up pennys. Old saying "a penny saved, a penny earned"
Anyone bought flatwashers lately? I pick them up also. I got a lot of slugs out of electrical boxes also. HeHe.

I understand if the penny is heads up then you will have good luck that day,
if the penny is tails up then you pick it up at your own risk, good luck yes or no.

who knows, I grew up a poor kid, if I found a penny or nickel on the ground, I was a rich kid that day and could buy at least one piece of bubble gun the next time I got to go to town.

I do not know if my grandkids would pick up a $5 bill.
times, they are a changing, but hey, I will still pick up a penny as long as I can.

I never walk by money. I will always pick it up. I"m Dutch - they say the Grand Canyon was formed when a dutchman dropped a nickel down a gopher hole. Not talking about Mark Vos - just our common heritage. Arvin

Chuck, Happy Birthday. I will always pick up a penny enough of them will make a great trip and maybe a little richer.
Jerry from Ohio

About flat washers - I heard of a guy who went to get some washers. Found out they were 6 cents apiece so went home and drilled holes in nickels instead.

Chuck,

I never pick up pennies, but I did notice something recently. I don't know any current songs or singers on the radio-and I don't care because the music is bad anyway. And too loud! I'm turning into my Dad. Don

Find a penny, heads up
all day you will have good luck.

Find a penny, heads down
turn it over and spread luck around

Ok, several have told of the significance of the penny, now from an older guy (70+) the significance of the story is that when he bent down to pick up the penny....he was able to stand back up!!!

Well, there is a joke about how copper wire was discovered. Two (insert nationality here) saw a penny at the same time!

I am 70 and when I ask my dad why he was keeping some thing he was say I can remember when I needed that and was unable to get it, so I still pickup pennys head or tails

Pick up your pennies & the dollars will take care of themselves. However, my Dad would walk over a dollar to pick up a penny, that's why we never had a "Dealer Eagle". Always remember, "heads up, pick it up. Heads down, leave it down".

Yea, I never thought I would turn into my Dad, but low and behold I did. Not saying that's bad, but his beliefs just makes more since now that I am older.

I always stop to pick up a penny. But up here in Canada they aren't used anymore. They were phased out I think Jan 2013.

That's O.K. Arvin , I'm DUTCH and proud of it ..

YES I pick-up pennies .//

............. mark { Dutchman }

I pick up penneys and I have a "Whitney Punch" I never buy washers 1/4" or smaller. Only use the 1984 or newer (no copper) for washers.

A old wealthy friend of my Dad's told him once,"Joe,dont worry about the dollars, they will take care of themselves,Joe,worry about the pennies.
Took me a while when I was younger to even care what he meant, but now I do, and two reasons I would pick it up, "Heads up" right, good luck or your lucky day, and "Penny saved is a Penny earned"
Good post Chuck.
I still pick up pennies
