DC Case Crankshaft bearing

I'm looking into buying a 52 dc-4 from a gentleman who says the crankcase babbit bearings are out. The tractor is in rough shape but is complete. I'm wondering how much of a job it is to replace the babbit bearings. Considering the condition of the tractor the engine will have to be overhauled. I may have to pass on this considering my time and treasure may be short. Thanks in advance.

Tear down the engine, remove the crankshaft. Remove the main bearing shells, have them re-babbited. Put the shells back into the block with the original number of shims. Have the main bearings line bored to the correct size based on the crankshaft diameter. Install the crank, check oil clearance and shim to correct as needed. I would guess the re-babbiting might cost $400-$500 and the line boring would cost $300-$400.

I had one done in May. $374.40 to have them pored, line bored and all fit. Harkin Machine in Watertown SD.

We keep a re-babbitted set of mains here for $200.00 exchange. However, they will need to be installed in the block & "line bored". Another consideration is the 4 Connecting Rods as they are babbitted also.
