Hy-trans oil

Ok, I know that there are a bunch of you guys that had Case dealerships. What I want to know, is why is Hy-trans better for a Case tractor then any other? I know Case never refined, nor packaged its own oil.
Way back when, we ran JD HyGuard in all the sprayers. The first Rogator didn't like it, and I went to Mobil. Basically the same product, but it was sure easier on wheel motors.
That being said, where I now live.... its 45 miles to the nearest tractor dealer of any kind, and they are blue. Another 40 miles and I can get to a Case IH, old dealer. Going west its 100 miles to a Red dealer.
I have been running either Dextron, or generic Hy-trans in both of my COM's. The old DC really doesn't care what it gets as long as its oil.

c-o-m are just fine with dextron ,,.or hy tran , or 303 jd or even 10 wt in that order ,,. hy tran is a MUST for the 70 series POWER SHIFT tranny ...anything less will cauase the owner to come here with hat in hand wondering what is wrong....303 is thiker ,, and has been used on hot days in 70 series power shifts ,,. but come winter , problems can develop ,when that happens ,,.it ,makes a guy long for the trouble free workdays of runnin a hummin DC with a full belly of any oil in the tranny ...

Hy-Tran is a superior oil to the TFD oil, better high pressure protection and has a seal conditioner as well as the ability to hold a certain amount of H20 in suspension, the current Ultra or super Ultra Hy-tran is a improved version of the original IH Hy-Tran at the time TFD was the best CASE had to offer in the high HP tractors, as for the posters ? on it he is correct in that CNH does not do the refining of the oil but they do hold the patent on the specific additives used in the OEM oil that bulk oil distributors can not supply as a exact replacement for CNH Hy-Tran, I along with many others here highly recommend using it, however if you have a oil that has been serving you well for many years without issues no problem as I have said before it is your equipment use what you like, when we are asked what we recommend we will say what we have found to be the best in our experience working on and running our and our customers equipment in the end it is always your choice

Casenutty answered the question. The only thing that I want to add is that I believe Hytran has a lower or different type of detergent compared to other brands.

I believe it’s the detergents in some brands that dissolve the glue from under the clutch fiber plates.

I have noticed that the oil that caused me trouble was sold as premium oil but it is even causing seal problems in other pieces of equipment.

Tom: Let me know if I"m wrong on this, but as I remember, the TFD (Transmission-Final Drive) was a heavier viscosity than the TCH (Transmission-Converters-Hydraulics) fluid. The TFD did not have the anti-foaming agents that the TCH oil has, which is why the TCH is recommended for Converters, Hyd"s & Power Shift Tranny"s. I don"t think TFD was ever recommended for the Power Shifts. TCH is still available, but TFD is not, so I"ve been told.

John, "TCH" is still available although it costs more than Hy-Tran does as for "TFD" it was designed for 1270/1370 (1570 came later but used TFD as well) tractors that required a higher gear load oil so yes it was for power shift tractors, I was talking to Bro Loren when I opened this and he told me to tell you "it's back to the wood shed for you" LOL

forgot to add "TFD" stands for T= transmission FD= final drives and as the 1270/1370 were the first CASE tractors to have internal final drives this should explain it being brought out at the time

Wood shed??!! Gotta catch me 1st!! I seem to remember the TFD being directed more toward the Construction side. I wonder if it was here in the East?

I really wasn't trying to start a fight. I was just curious as to why HyTrans was the better product. I now know. Thanks

Hi.

I guess I will get in this discussion.I was a case then a caseih dealer for 46 years. Now my wife & I just sell equipment and still have the store, and the repair shop.We also crop farm. We have a 4430,4440 J.D.,2090,2290 case,1030 case,544 hydro.
But we do not use Case or John Deere oil because I have not been able figure out how to keep them from getting friendly when changing equipment, unless you are okay with J.D. oil in your tractors, which I do not care. We use chevron THF1000 hyd oil in all of the tractor. We have used and sold this oil for 25 years, I've had thee tractors since they were only a couple years old. Also we sell this in bulk to alot of farmers in our area.I guess I'm just not on board with all this. I have not been inside thee tractors since I've had them, also I use chevron engine oil. We sell about 8000 gallons of both oils a year. (For all makes and models) Just for your info. thee tractors or my equipment never set outside over night. You are paying for the marketing and name brand for the most part.
By the way the 1030 and 544 are restore tractors ,But I still use them on the farm.
I believe a good service & maintenance program will help keep your problem low. I could go on but I stop.

I've not used Chevrons hyd oil, but I've become a huge believer in their engine oil after seeing the bearings that came out of a 2294 that had 12000 hours on it with nothing but Delo 400 for oil since new.

I just changed the oil in the Farmall C hydraulic touch control unit and used TSC's version of Hy-tran fluid in it. I hope I didn't make a mistake.

John,
TFD was introduced to handle lube issues in the rears of 12-15's due to the increased power being transmitted through the gears in those tractors. It was eventually replaced by PTF.
After the merger CaseIH adopted HY-Tran and from there, CNH now has HT-Ultra. Time marches on!

Case IH/New Holland does not refine or blend their own oil. The rights to Hytran are owned by Viscosity Oil Company who has contracts with blenders such as Warren Distribution and others to supply fluids blended to Case IH specs. Hytran is a premium product compared to TSC and other similar fluids.
