Tom: Let me know if I"m wrong on this, but as I remember, the TFD (Transmission-Final Drive) was a heavier viscosity than the TCH (Transmission-Converters-Hydraulics) fluid. The TFD did not have the anti-foaming agents that the TCH oil has, which is why the TCH is recommended for Converters, Hyd"s & Power Shift Tranny"s. I don"t think TFD was ever recommended for the Power Shifts. TCH is still available, but TFD is not, so I"ve been told.

John,
TFD was introduced to handle lube issues in the rears of 12-15's due to the increased power being transmitted through the gears in those tractors. It was eventually replaced by PTF.
After the merger CaseIH adopted HY-Tran and from there, CNH now has HT-Ultra. Time marches on!

John, "TCH" is still available although it costs more than Hy-Tran does as for "TFD" it was designed for 1270/1370 (1570 came later but used TFD as well) tractors that required a higher gear load oil so yes it was for power shift tractors, I was talking to Bro Loren when I opened this and he told me to tell you "it's back to the wood shed for you" LOL

Wood shed??!! Gotta catch me 1st!! I seem to remember the TFD being directed more toward the Construction side. I wonder if it was here in the East?

forgot to add "TFD" stands for T= transmission FD= final drives and as the 1270/1370 were the first CASE tractors to have internal final drives this should explain it being brought out at the time
