Dumb Question

I purchased a new battery charger last summer and failed to get one with a 6 volt option. Is it possible to charge a 6 volt battery w/a 12 volt charger, or will it ruin the battery, or the tractor's electrical system? Thanks, Don

I have never found a way to do it Don, I have found a great charger for the 6 volts are sold at Home Depot its a Black & Decker unit that slow charges/maintains and will do 6 and 12 volt cost is 20.00 here

agreed .6 and 8 volts need a 6 volt settin. while we are on that question,,, I have jump started 6 volt with a 12 volt system ,,i always turn off the 12 volt engine ,,, because, i fear there mite be a gremlin in the worx ,, so far so good..

I wonder if you could use a resistor? My '54 Dodge has 2 Group 4 6V's in parallel, & I have put the 12V charger in the "Low" setting on them for a short while, w/ no problems.

Hook your 6v battery in series with another 6v and then charge it.... or put your 12 v charger on its lowest setting and then understand that you are putting a 'boost' charge into you battery and do it for just a short time.

yes and no and maybee no.

if it is a 'smart' charger.. good luck.

if a plane jane xformer and diode job.. then technically.. yes. if you use a kludge series load you CAN charge up a 6v bat.. that's the non tech version. there are a few hurdles for hte technical moinded about laod change as the bat charges.. etc...e tc.

No. You must match the internal resistance of the battery, which changes depending on the batteries charge.
