Driving a bit of History

Rumor has it this machine hibernated in WY for over 2 decades, then followed a good CASE Guy back to MN, it's original birthplace. They were built in Crosby MN and the later ones had their own brand of engines, the Cuyana. So named after the famous Cuyana Iron Range here in MN. The company closed around 1980, one of the few remaining snowmobile Companies at that time. They did for a few years build units for Massey Ferguson. This is a 1977 model, I owned one back then and really enjoyed this ride even at -8 temp. Now it it time for some hot chocolate, Rod.

Sweet lookin' ride there Rod. I used to call them "scrap iron" (scorpion) sleds back a few decades ago. LOL Seriously though, that sled is in great condition. Makes me want a sled again.

Nice sled. There was 2 stings and a whip for sale on Craigslist here in nw Ohio. Said they were all bought new by the seller. Looked to be in good shape. He wanted 900 Obo for the trio.

Rod,

That is a nice looking machine for the late 70's. Can you still get parts for it, especially the engine?
Massey-Fergusons were built just a few miles down the road from here in the late 6o's/early 70's in downtown Algoma, WI in the old OK silo filler factory. In the summer they made snowmobiles and in the winter garden tractors. Don

I forgot to mention I have no idea if engine parts are still available, I better check into that, Rod.

Rod, It sure looks to be in nice shape. It's as old as I am! Lol. Is it for your boy who collects sleds? It looks like you have a lot more snow than us.

Eric, it may be a bit older than you as build date was late 76 on the serial plate, I took him a mate to that one as well except this one has boogie wheels and the other has slide rail suspension I am very glad to see them with someone who will enjoy them again

There a lot of those scorpions in our area also not many Masseys don't think there was a dealer very close, we had all Rupps back then oh for those days of riding now its just to dam cold to go out there and who remembers ride 3 hrs fix for 6.

I remember when the Rupps showed up and blew everybody elses doors off in about 1971. They sure were powerful machines. You sure are right about fixing, although some machines were pretty good, others were terrible. Don

Rod, I also ran Scorpions till I gave up snowmobiling! Actually the sold out to Artic Cat in 1980 and Cat went belly-up in 81. Came back in 84 minus the Scorpion brand.
