'54 SC Original Rear Tire?

I just removed what I'm guessing was an original rear tire on my SC. It is an 11-38 (Tube is marked 11-38 too. No patches.) Good Year Sure Grip. It has the web lug pattern. Rims are in excellent condition. I think the tractor lived a fairly easy life.

How likely is this a nearly 60-year-old tire? It's pretty bald, and the eidewalls are very badly cracked/crumbling.

Thanks,
Glenn F.

I have been told that they transitioned to the new width designation system in about 1954. Any new tires made after then would have used the new system. However, tires are made in batches and then placed in storage, so it may have been a number of years before your tires made their way onto your rims. They could have also been a used set. Interestingly, Case build cards sometimes state the manufacturer of the tires.

I would say it isn't out of the question. My 48 Farmall Cub has the original back tires they are pretty much bald and very dry but they still work.
