Case 300 hydraulics

We're working on a case 300 and can't get the hydraulics to work. Where is the hydraulic pump located on this tractor and does anyone know where we can find a schematic for the hydraulic system. Thanks Larry

It sounds like the hyd pump bolted unside the cover supporting the hyd valve bodies is in the disingaged position. there is a 1/2" rod with a cast tab, protruding (forward) on the side of the cover assy, which shifts the pump drive in, or out. Sorry I don't have a pic readily available, but I am sure one of the Joe's on this forum will post a pic. of the shifter.

Here is a pic Loren. Shifter is engaged.

Larry,

Loren is right. It sounds like your pump is disengaged. The picture below is not the best, but the blue arrows are pointing to a cast tab/lever that allows the operator to engage or disengage the pump. The lever in the "out" (forward) position disengages the pump. The lever in the aft or "in" position engages the pump. Make the change with the engine NOT running. - Joe

We found the lever and it was in the on position. Was wondering if the hydraulics had it's own reservor or did it use the oil from the rear end?

Since you're all on the subject, can someone tell me why Case made the option to turn the pump off? Why would you need to?

Cockshutt did the same thing with their 35, 40, and 50 series tractors. I think the idea was that it wouldn't wear as much if it didn't run when you didn't need it.
Interestingly, disengaging the hydraulic pump on one of these Cockshutt tractors also disengages the shaft that runs the live PTO.

Yes, the hydraulics is a separate sump in the torque tube. The torque tube is the transition housing that bolts to the engine on the forward end and to the 4 speed transmission on the aft end. Aside from possible factory options (triple range, hand clutch, etc) it contains the hydraulic pump and capacity for 12 qts of oil w/triple range and 15 qts w/o.

You may or may not have the triple range and/or hand clutch.

If you drain the hyd oil and pull the access cover (VT-41) you can see the pump and drive train. The pump is bolted to the bottom of the cover the control valve(s) are mounted on and has to come out that way to do any repairs. Take another look at Joe Young"s pic.

If the tractor does not have a Eagle hitch or you are not using it for extended periods, there is no need to run the pump unless you hookup something to the remotes.
