Not trying to put you on the spot, but curious as to why you use 15W40 in the Diesel's, but SAE 30 in the Gassers? I use 15W40 in all, except newer road vehicles requiring 5W30. Here is why I use 15W450 in both my diesels & old Gassers. Because research has shown that most engine wear occurs on start-up. The advantage of the 15W40 is that it has the flowability of a 15W when cold to get circulated sooner than a straight SAE 30. When warm, it lubes like a SAE 40. Any thoughts?

John, thats just how we've always done it! I ran 15W-40 in some of the tight smaller engines and they seem to pound a little in the cooler months. Maybe it's my imagination, I don't know. I run SAE30 in the VA series and other smaller models but 15W-40 in the LA and DC.
 
I opt for 15/40. 40 for the older engines with more clearances and July heat, and 15W for the start up. I agree with John 100%. I use several SCs here and for years would change from 10 to 40 with the seasons, but found myself not putting hours on everything and wasting oil. They've been on the 15W/40 program for at least 10 years. The same with larger, my 1070, that just turns my baler, does well with it I feel.........
