1070 power shift four speed problems?

My dad has a early model 1070 I believe (cast front grill housing) with transmission shifting problems. Bush hogging with it and stopped to move a limb, got back on it, clutched it to put in gear and the four speed handle just flops. It used to grind a bit and roll in gear but now it feels like the linkage is broke. Checked outside the transmission and it is all in tact.
What problem could this be and what needs to be done to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
FE

If everything is moving properly on the outside you know it trouble is inside. Remove the square plate from platform floor. Wash the top of trans thoroughly and remove the small tin cover that the nuetral switch threads into. Now by shifting the linkage you might be able to see the problem. If that all seems OK then the trans top cover needs to be removed. It might need to be removed to repair the problem anyway. Deal with that after you locate problem, Rod.
