3rd gear 2670

We have a 2670 that will stop when a load is applied to it in 3rd gear.
Power shift works fine. Tractor will move in 3rd until it gets some load on it. What can cause this to happen? How tough is the fix? We have an engineless 2670 that has a good 4 speed box. Wondering if tractor is worth the trouble to change it all over and how much we will spend on soft parts (gaskets ect) in doing so?

Sounds like you are talking about 3 rd gear in the 4 speed trans. The only reason I can think of is slippage in the power shift or torque limiters. But then you should be able to get it to slip by loading the tractor in the other gears also. Rod.

Yes the problem is in the 4 speed box. It will move in third until it gets a small load on it. It makes a whinning sound when it stops, does not do this in any other gear. Could it be possible the gears are not meshing together when shifted and it is only getting a friction drive from the gears just rubbing on each other? Does working on this require an engine and power shift removal? Thanks.
