Something let loose in my friend Jeff's 2394 today. Was fine a couple days ago today it has water in the oil and puffs a bit out of the dipstick hole when you pull it out while running. Tomorrow I'll pull the manifold to see if it shows in one of the ports. I'm hoping it's a head gasket but not to hopeful.

A puff on the crankcase breather indicates blow by from one piston. Steady stream of vapor could be very well be the coolant evaporating and coming out breather. In other words, a puff from breather is not likely to be head gasket, but if steady stream of vapor can be from any coolant leak, gasket, head cracked, sleeve cracked, O-rings on sleeve, cavitation of sleeve.

9 times outta 10 its a sleeve o-ring on a sleeve or cavitation on a sleeve;either way its pretty spendy to fix.

Don't pull the water manifold off yet, I don't think you will see anything. Pull the oil pan off and pressurize the cooling system. Maybe you could borrow a cooling system pressurize kit from a truck shop. The 2394 will have the larger radiator cap so you will need the large adapter. My moneys on leaking sleeve o rings also. Make note of where the coolant is running from....on the inside of the sleeve or the outside? If the tractor doesn't have a water filter kit on it put one on.
