Procedures, gaskets, parts and tools needed to remove broken pto and replace? Case 1370 Ser #8729325. Do I need to drain all Hyd Fld and remove PTO housing to remove broken shaft or can I remove the 3 bolts holding the retainer ring surrounding the Shaft, remove snap ring and slide out broken PTO? All recommendations, hints, guides are welcomed. I'm a tractor novice.
Thanks -- Pete

yes you have to drain all of the trans oil right at 30 gal will come out, remove rear pto housing use a cherry picker or overhead hoist

Its not a bad job, once the housing is off like Tom mention you will need a very strong snap ring pliers to remove a couple snap rings holding a gear on. You will swear before they are removed. I have already used heat to soften the rings for removal and just ordered new ones for reassembly. Rod.

Hi Case, Thanks - could you send me a picture of your snap ring pliers and describe size? Have 2 sets but question if they are large/strong enough. Do I need new seals, gaskets and snap rings before proceeding? Farm is isolated, 60 miles from anywhere - want all parts in hand before beginning. Where to buy them? CASE or? Have only the PTO shaft now. Any other tools or parts required. Have wrenches to remove bolts, overhead hoist to lift/hold pto housing and buckets to store Hydr fluid. Anything else needed? I'm new at this game. [email protected] Thanks - Pete

Rod - Thanks for your input. Have the PTO shaft. Where do/should one buy/order snap rings, gaskets oil seals. Do you recommend having them on hand. Did you replace them or did you need them? Have 2 sets of snap ring pliers wondering if they are large/strong enough? Anything else needed? Have overhead hoist to remove/lift PTO housing, wrenches to remove housing and buckets for hydr fluid. Might you have pics of shaft housing internals so I'll know what I'm looking for/at? Trying to be prepared as possible before beginning. [email protected]. Thanks -- Pete
