shifter installation

I have redone a 400 super from the dif forward. Things have gone pretty well with the exception of the gear shift. I put the steering pedestal and fuel tank on before installing the shift leaver. It was set up in belt pulley neutral but I must have missed the mark when I put the shift leaver in. Now everything is out of wack. Do I need to remove the fuel tank, steering pedestal and top plate of the transmission to fix this?

Chuck R. just went through the same thing, he got his in without disassembling anything, he said it had to go in angled. For future work it works best to leave them in low, or high range neutral when taking them apart. Be patient.

If you are in b-pulley neutral as you lower the shift leaver down ,the shifter arm below the boot, should be angled to the right at about 20 degrees ,and you must position your tongue in your mouth back towards your right rear molars. E-mail me if you do not get it. Ill talk you through it. Chuck
