Case 970 ser# 8814596 (1977) with Power Shift. Symptoms: Engine starts and runs well, Push in Clutch (inching pedal) does not have much back pressure, and engine does not lurch, Good power steering, PTO operates, Lift Arms move freely up and down, good brake pressure, but it will not move in foreward or reverse direction any gear. All Links to Power Shift Clutch Control appear to be connected and move freely visually under floor plate. All New Hydraulic Fluid and Filters were installed recently - only operated tractor a couple hours since. Need help with checks and tests to further troubleshoot the problem and isolate the root cause. Problem occurred instantly - powered up a hill, stopped, backed and turned off tractor. A couple minutes later I started the engine and the above symptioms were noted. Appreciate any Hints, recommendations and guidance as I'm a tractor novice.

Thanks -- Pete

The torque limiter has failed. Start it up try putting it in the main gears on the trans side with the clutch up. If it goes into gear without grinding you are not turning the trans. Most likely limiter has failed. Thad

Thanks Thad. What are the fix-remove-replace procedures, required actions, tools, gaskets, materials, costs, etc? I've read other forums which suggest the torque limiter failed for similar symptoms. I'm new in the tractor game and have had unfortunate bad luck from the start.
Appreciate any more info.

Basically you have to split the tractor at the rear of the engine. So all hose's line's wiring and fuel lines between the two halves must be disconnected. Tools needed the main thing is some safe jacks or splitting stands. You would need a line up shaft to center the new limiter a belly gasket and limiter. Thad

Thanks Thad. Sounds like Big effort in the making. Where would one obtain a line up shaft? Can splitting stands be built with heavy lumber or? Are Limiters available from Case or ? Appreciate your feedback.
Thanks -- Pete

Thad - I Started engine. Put transmission in all 4 gears without pushing the clutch in - no grinding, no movement, no reaction. Must be the Torque Limiter? as you suggest - that verified. Alignment rod/shaft where can I find/get? Might you have pics of Torque Limiter mechanism so I can see it in the 'flesh'. Where can one buy the Torque Limiter alignment rod/shaft tool and gasket? Anything else needed?
