1948 Case D water pump removal

Is it advisable to remove the rad before the water pump can be removed???
My pump leaks...drops steadily.

I guess radiator Stop Leak would not seal a seal???

You can't remove it without removing the radiator; Stop-Leak won't cure it but a good dose of grease might. That's what the cup on top of the pump is for.

D pumps have no grease cup .They have a lubricator to grease the bronze bushing of the impeller shaft.
The actual sealing is with a carbon washer
This needs replacement and also the countersurface in the pump housing must be reworked. Usually the impeller shaft is corroded and needs a resurfacing job as well.
Leak sealers do not cure water pump seal failures.

I've been around Dc's for 64 years and everyone I ever saw had a grease cup.

The water pump has a grease zerk that lubes the bearings or bronze bushing depending on year.
