Kids on tractors

I know that several of the Guys and Gals here on this forum have tractors they take to shows to display for others to enjoy. I take my SC as often as I can because I enjoy the atmosphere and sharing stories of day’s gone buy with anyone who likes to talk tractors. Quite often parents with small children come buy to look at the tractor and the children want to sit on the tractor and play like they are driving and even have Mom or Dad take there picture. I have no problem letting the kids sit on the tractor, for some of them it makes there day. The smile you see on there faces is priceless. I always make sure one of the parents is there and that the tractor is disabled so it cannot start. At the last show I was told that I shouldn’t let the kid on the tractor because if an accident happened I could be liable. I hate not letting the little ones have some fun on these old tractors; I would hope it may spark some interest in some of the young ones to get involved in keeping the old tractors out of the scrap yards. What do you Guys think? Should I keeps the kids off the tractor and just say no to everyone? It’s sad that something like this even has to be considered but I guess its part of the world we live in today. Dennis

I usually let the kids on mine. I generally have the VAIW at the shows. It is perfect for the kids. Just their size and with cast iron fenders they can't hurt it.

The way I look at it is I can live in fear of loosing my "stuff", or I can enjoy myself and take life as it comes. I believe there are so many ways to loose your stuff that it would be imposible to prevent them all and with my luck it would be the one thing left that got me.

You have brought up a good question.
I have my tractors insured the same as my pick up.
So if I hit someone or something with my tractor it's the same as if I were in my truck. I will ask my agent about letting someone sit on the tractors.

Boy Dennis that's ah tuffy.......I guess I look at it like Jon does........ I myself don't have a case for shows just for here. But if I did I would let my heart-n-gut decide who sat in the seat!! subject to parent approval. All my grandkids have sat-n-rode my case!!!! Want them to sit on a good tractor hee hee. Just my 11 cents worth.

I know that I stand a chance of losing everything, but I refuse to let the insurance companies rule my life.
Just use common sense. Encourage kids to be careful and help them get on your tractor. This may be the biggest reason these machines are still around...slim
