An aquaintanance of mine stopped by last week, asking about a 530 that he was looking at. Asked him a few questions and determined that it was a late 530 row crop, with DOM. He said the seller had put all new clutch plates into the PTO, but wouldn't stay engaged. He said that he could buy it for 3K. He drove it up here yesterday afternoon, only about 4 miles. Bro and I talked about it this morning and determined that it was a very early 68 model. The PTO is really screwed up, as it won't turn when pulled forward and won't lock over center and it takes a 16" pipewrench to turn the shaft with the lever in any position. 3PT won't drop, (perhaps stuck hold valve), as rockshaft is free. Lefft brake a bit weak, but not adjusted up to the RH one. Both work decent. John S., looking for a Tach and cable for it. plus may need some other parts. I will call you this week.
There are some things different about this very early production 68 541. Draft armes may be after market, as they have combo CatI and CatII balls on the ends, and appear heavier than the Case arms. Also someone may have altered the foot throttle, as you need to put your heel on it to operate it. It actually works pretty good.
The row crop axles were weak on these tractors and the pic. shows how a lot of them riped open on a spiral. The 440/540 ylilized the same axle components, but the geometry was much diferent, to lower the profile.

I had a 730 diesel with a COM that had damage like that to the front end.Whoever repaired it did a good job.Should have never let that one leave as it ran real nice.If I keep lurking on this board I might have to add one to the herd.Been thinking about it anyhow.Too many dorfs may not be a good thing.

Question. Why do you keep referring to it as a row crop when it is clearly a wide front end tractor??

Row crop simply means the wheels can be adjusted to different row widths, regardless of wide/narrow front. What I'm curious about is why they have the left side slid clear in and the right side out? Nice looking machine anyways, hope the issues can be solved.

Very nice! I hope you get all of the issues fixed easily. I have a 1966 530 that is in peices and I hope it will look as good as that one. My front axle looks the same as that on. Mine has a loader on it which I am sure contributed to it's demise! Zane

I'm interested in hearing about the PTO fix. I had the one off my 811b apart and near as I can tell it "should" work, But no matter what I do it won't overcenter. I end up sort of jamming it in place but that's a poor way of doing things. I've adjusted it till I'm blue in the face per the manual but I think the springs are shot.

that 530 would fit rite in at this place,,, typical STRANGE AILMENTS of all sorts, too .., that ft feed like that would give me nite cramps and leglox in my calfs,,if I spend along day on the dc , I suffer same pain ,, but that's just me ,, I would bet the pto has some backwards parts ,,,is itpossible case offered the swivel 3 pt arms ,,, seems like ihave seen that before on some ones tractor

Hey Bruce,
Is it still raining up there. since memorial day it has rained every day except 3 back in late June. Supposed to get some gulley washers this afternoon. They say the jet stream is going to change a bit by the end of the week, and bring in some less hot and humid weather.
You are correct on the foot throttle, and there is another hole in the floorboard to rotate it under the brake pedals. As I mentioned, it wouldn't take much to get use to it in that position. We will see what the customer wants.
