Case 930

I am looking at a Case 930 Standard that a fellow wants to sell. Are there any problems that I should look for in particular? Also how many hp can you turn them up to without overdoing it, they are rated 80, would like to go to close to 100 if reasonable.

Yes, all 930's that had a PTO were live, hydraulics also.

Why not just get a 1030 then you would have the 100 horse you want.

The neighbor has this 930 and wants to sell it for around $2500-$3000 and thought I might be able to use it if it were a little more hp. Was going to try and use it as a cheap round baler tractor.

Well the 970 tested at 93 with same engine and still non-turbo and a good Bosch man could probably get you another 7 to put you at your 100. You will also find that a 930,s 80 hp will pull a bit more than a JD 4010 rated at 81 hp and do it easier at lower rpm,s.

If it is a 6 speed 930, one consideration is the pto location for a round baler. Pto is very high on the tractor and makes for some ungodly angles on turns. Just a thought. I run a 6 speed on a round baler, but have raised the hitch on the baler. Plenty of power as a stock tractor.

If it is a 6Sp, & for what you are looking to do with it, I'd stay away from it. A 6SP has the high PTO & she's clumsy. Great for pulling. The PTO's were more durable in the 8SP 930's.

Same bore and stroke... not the same engine. Having heads that let air through makes a world of difference in the 2 engines.

Still a 930 is an awful hefty 80 hp tractor.

I do not think you will have very good luck getting 100 hp from a stock non turbo 930 engine. Yes you can shoot more fuel in but its the air that is the limiting factor. You would get tons of smoke. Even a better breathing 970 will be smoking when producing 100 hp. I turned a 970 to 105 and it smoked like a freight train. A turbo would have brought it to life but the owner did not want to spend any money. Proof its hard to get something for nothing, lol. Rod.

I have 2, 930 cases and I have used them on an 850 New Holland baler.

They have more than enough power to run the baler.

I also pull an 18ft case disc in 4th low. A 930 is a lot of tractor dont let the 84hp rating sway you against it.

Why not see if you can use the tractor for a few days before you decide to buy.

I have a 930 western special with a six speed overcenter hand clutch, war-out 3 Heston balers with it. Pto is a problem in that is difficult to slow the engine speed enough in dry hay I like to bale at a pto speed of about 375 rpms and that is out of the torque curve. I'm a 6000 ft with hills a some wet ground
When I bought a 956 Heston the 930 would only handle the baler well on flat dry ground,this baler builds a constant 1500 lb bale.
In 3 ton hay driving on the windrows is a problem in pinching the edge of the windrow to the ground.
The 930 sits in a shed waiting for my retirement sale
