1070 steering wheel & lock shaft removal and dissambly?

Hi all,

I am having difficulty removing the steering wheel from the outer shaft of my neighbor's Case.

I need to know exactly how the steering wheel comes off. It is a simple pull off? Or does the ring, with the two holes in it, (pictured) have to be screwed off?

And is the smaller threaded shaft, with the 9/16" nut, the top of the lock shaft? If so, it should drive out, correct?

Also, am I correct in assuming that to remove the broken lock shaft from the inner shaft (pic), all I need to do is drive it toward the open end of the inner shaft?

Any help would be much appreciated as he needs to start harvesting hay very soon.

Thank you,
Terry

Terry, You must have a early tractor. The two damaged holes in the steering wheel would have been tapped 5/16 so you could use a T-bar puller to remove the wheel. And yes I think the center shaft should drive toward the open end.

Confirmation that the steering wheel was a simple pull off helped me get it worked out.

Thank you!
