830 shifting

I need help. My 830 COM, is a bear to shirt. Acts like the detents in the shift rails really have stiff springs. Well, last night I was trying to bale over at the neighbors. Its Rye hay, and my 271 New Holland doesn't like it very well. Keeps messing with my knotters. Anyway, I am getting frustrated, and went to shift from second, to third. I ended up in first, went to go from first to third, and somehow got the shifter in between gears. This isn't the first time, and its always when I am in a hurry, so I am sure that I am pulling the shifter sideways.
Question is, is there something I can do to help out the situation?

Case had a kit that went on the shift rails as I recall. Dealer put one in our 730. Sometimes you can go right back to the gear you just came out of and start over. Tom
