Case 1170 hydraulic disconnects and dust covers

I am trying to sort through the maze of hydro fittings. I am pretty sure this tractor needs to be converted over but have not tried a fitting in it yet. All implements are the pioneer ISO type with ball end. The female disconnects on tractor are cone shaped on the outside and look original. If that is the case, can I be certain they need to be replaced with the standard style? Of course they are REALLY on there so I will have to take bigger tools over to get them off.

As well, it seems no one knows what dust covers are. All the fittings on this stuff are nasty and I cannot stand it. Oil contamination, coupler damage, leakage, etc. As well, I would think dust plugs would be cheap, but NO, 8-10 bucks each! Is there a cheaper way? I know our old M&Ms back in the day had those nice metal threaded caps. SLICK!

I thought Case 70 series were all ISO fittings.

I know my 1370 accepts male ISO ends.

As far as dust covers/plugs I pay around $4 for mine from shoup.

the "ISO" couplers were made standard on "70" series tractors starting in about 1974, BUT you could still order the Case style until the end of "70" series production I have a 1977 970 that has them from the factory cnt

I pulled the female coupler off the tractor and mated it to an end on an implement. The female coupler is too big in diam.

So....I am shopping for ISO 5675? I was confused if that designation included both the pointed male tip and the ball tip? All mine have the ball tips.

You are going to need new hoses too. The Case couplers used an oddball thread.

correct, Case used to sell a adaptor back to pipe thread, the last ones I bought was 25.00 or better each I have some around I will try to post a pic

here is a shot (first pic) of Case style couplers with the adaptors and a shot of another way you can go is to buy coupler adaptors that allow you to use the original couplers but still plug into the Pioneer style as well, these are on my 1470

Of course the thread would be different!!! What a day....

So, where can I get adapters? This is going to get expensive, I can feel it now... Does anyone know what type of coupler the Case is if I wanted to try and find male fittings for my hoses? I don't think that is a good idea since the equipment would then be married to that tractor. Sounds like I need male coupler ends with male thread, threaded into female couplers with female thread. What fun.

After all is said and done, those hoses on the tractor will start leaking....lol

this would be the cheapest way to go this is a Pioneer tip for J.I. Case couplers with 1/2" female pipe thread

If you use the adaptors make sure you disconnect from the tractor as the adaptors have been known to leak and empty the hydraulic system in minutes.

We Change our tractors over to 90 series style & throw the old style ends in the corner shelf /they have no value ,on newer tractors =all the newer Equipment uses Pioneer ends.just changed over 730/2 870 s /830 & 1070 yellow /The Hoses are replaced when we change them over.

I put pioneer iso on everything. New hoses where required.
Same thing on all implements. Also use the rubber dust plugs.
Usually hit tractor supply for that stuff. Not too high. About $4
for a pair of dust plugs. I hope i didnt just jinx myself again

The best thing you can do is buy 4 new hoses from Case, for a late 1175 (etc). Make sure the coupler end of the hose is pipe thread put 4 new Pioneer couplers on them. BUT, I bet your tractor has the swivel fittings on the remote valve. The new hoses will be tapered flare. Go to the salvage yard and get 4 tapered flare remote valve fittings, And the springs behind them, I have seen different lenght springs with different fittings. After all this screwing around and $400-$500 you're done!

When i encounter those half tubing half hose and they arent cheap and easy i use a compression fitting to reuse the special tubing half. I like to make everything to where if the hose ever fails again all i need to do is go get a hose with male pipe threads on each end.

On my 1170, I use adapters. Works fine. Keeps the tractor original and uses the original dust covers. I keep the adapters where I know where they are and they are kept clean.

So are the threaded ports on the remote valve housing NPT threads or are they special too?

I was considering going to the farm store to see if they have 4 short hoses to get that going.

the ports at the remote valve are "JIC" thread with a 90 degree fittings

Going to visit my local hydro shop now. I guess they have the right coupler for this that converts the odd ball thread on the Case hose to the Pioneer. They called it a 5/8 straight. Price was stellar as well and I just realized it is the same company we buy all our endmills from....Who knew....

Well.....That was a complete waste of time at the hydro store. One thought they had it all figured out until I walked in the door...

I called another and about fell over when I just asked how much to make a Male Case/Female ISO coupler adapter. He said about 150 each. The couplers cost about 80 bucks each. His must be made of gold because I can find Parker 4000 stuff for about 20 bucks.

Tom I am not yet sure what I am going to do here but have only a small amount of time to figure it out.

I did look up the adapter PN posted by John S and what I found was an adapter that has 7/8x18 male thread to 1/2NPT female thread so you can have a hose made and keep the factory couplers. At this point, I want to throw those stupid things as far as I can. I would also consider just getting the correct male (nipple) ends for the equipment to get me going for now if I can determine what style the case is.

Anyone? John, Tom? I would need the male ends with femal 1/2" NPT

Parker PN 4080-4, 25 bucks each, problem solved. They are certainly slick.
