I have not gauged it ,, but I believe my 1070 does not have adequete pressure to keep the pto fully engaged in a hard pull,,it will not run a disc mower ,, but it is running the cyclo air planter ,.. I have a new clutch pack to put in it ,, but I would like to bump the pressure up 1st ,,. i had trouble with the engaging piston a while back , ,, I a m wondering if there is a seal that we mist , and its dumping oil ?? ,, or perhaps it needs a few shims taken out of valve body...

If your trans press gauge runs with the needle in the green chances are your pto press is ok. However check the control
linkage and make sure when the PTO lever is in the engaged position, that the spool in the valve has been moved all the way.

I also forgot to mention if you have slipped the PTO clutch a lot the disc's are more than likely damaged already. With the unit off the tractor you can apply air pressure in the pressure line fitting of the PTO and listen for any obvious leaks in it. When replacing the clutch's I prefer to use the A33012 disc's. J,

Make a 4 ft hose, 1/8 male with 1/4 female to accept a 600 lb gage.

Remove the brass Ell where the dash gage connects on the side of the flo divider, install gage hose there.

Check the pressure with warm oil, should be over 200 lb, I like to see 210 and a couple pounds more would not be a issue.

Removing shims from the flo divider endcap will lower the pressure, adding will raise it.

With some experience you will be able to diagnose many problems from there although a 5 gage setup is really good for the RPS evaluation.

As previously stated, if the clutches have slipped under power they are most likely toast.

To do a proper PTO rebuild the PTO housing should have the inner cover removed and all seals, Orings, roll pins and the brake snap ring replaced. the cover is kinda tricky as a thrust washer tab and a ball which keeps the shaft from spinning in the housing must all start at once on the way back together.

Personally, I would replace the brake assembly while down as if it is glazed with new plates there will be enough drag to overcome it and it's not fun to do the second time.

Unlikely as it may be, you could still have the offset brake shoe depending on the age and previous repairs. The new style is inline and much improved.

Back in the day there was a complete rework of the PTOs including modifying the actual spool in the flowdivider to allow more volume to the PTO unit. I still have the service bulletins from then in binders at the shop.
