does any one have a 170 rake that still has the correct paint on it or pics of a correctly restored one? I am looking for info for some one who wants to paint it correctly, this one has steel wheels thanks cnt

Bro, sorry I can't come up with a colored pic., and the parts book makes no mention of paint. As a kid I put togeter many of those rakes. Remember having to sort out the strippers, as they were short at the front of the basket frame and got longer at the rear. The 170 rakes were built for a long time, and had many paint colors over their life span. Green frame and parts with Case wheel Yellow, (slime green), comes to mind. The last of the L170's on low rubber were flambeau & desert sunset. I think that somewhere along the way the basket and some other componets were also painted dark red.

Thanks Bro, good friend John called this morning and has a rake still with color he is getting some pics of for me, one question I have is with the wheel color, why did they use the yellow they chose? just seems out of place to me thanks again Bro cnt

I don't know about that slime green color. As you said, it didn't go with anything else, It may have been a color that Grand Detour, EB or Osborne used.
Here is a tidbit from our dealer arcives.
the Herkimer rail yard is the one that did not have a freight depot, just a siding, so unloading rail cars was a chalange. A lot of our NI equipment came in there also.
