2470 power shift

Looking for a little guidance. I pulled the pan off of the hydraulic/power shift unit on our case 2470 tractor and found a bearing race in the bottom of the pan. I didn"t find any balls but just the race. The tractor has 3000 hrs on it and hasn"t had any previous issues with the power shift. Do we still use it for spring tillage or hang it up before it causes more problems?

This looks like one of those calls a owner sometimes has to make. If a brg. has lost that cage we know a failure will indeed occur. How quickly no one can really say because we don't know how long its been off the brg. I don't know of any common failures on 2470's so that makes it difficult to predict. Myself if I had to get the crop planted and had to use that tractor I would as long as all systems operated normally and investigate the problem as soon as possible. Now I'm not saying you should do that, I'm only saying that's what I would probably do. Rod.

Seems to me that cage would only come from the rear most part of powershift where power is transfered to main transmission . I would not run it till fixed.Mechanic chewed me out for using tractor when i new there was problem .
