1030 steering

Are there any tricks for removing the steering linkage (from the steering wheel down)on a 1030?
Thanks for your help, Don

Practice your cussing first, then take out both roll pins in the knuckle under the radiator, take the bearing suport loose then drive the shaft forward til it comes apart at the upper u-joint. You will have to pull out away from the engine to get enough room.

Don, you must have gotten the "1031" home.
Are the joints really bad? I assume mine are bad then too

Dan,

The joints are ok. It is the shafts and the round bushings they pass through that are really sloppy. I was told the bushings are no longer available from Case. Don

I just got some this last fall from the local case dealer for my 930. I dont remember where they came from but they did order them in. I havent installed them yet because it looks like quite a chore in doing so and there is too much going on to tackle it.

They are available but expensive. I switched my 1030 over to sealed ball bearings with a lock collar and all is well. Only modification was taking a die grinder and opening up the flanges a little.

Take the dash loose and the steering wheel off. The steering collum has 3 bolts that hold it on, take those out and lift it off the shaft. Much easier than undoing the shaft and you can get the collum out to work on it. I can't remember the size but the service maanger at our company store used to use a regular bearing in there. 1 inch maybe?

Don, glad you brought this up,kinda important to have a good steering system. Will check mine when I get it home.
Thanks
Dan
