1949 Case LA polarity voltage

Can not lay hands on my manual for LA has never had a battery and wiring gone off generator want to add a battery and make use of the starter and generator guessing it is 6 volt positive ground and what size cranking amp battery did they use getting older and find the crank getting heavy to lift glad it starts on second lift.
Thanks for the help

Paul, I just put 12 volt batteries on my LAs and they are Negative Ground. Put a 12 volt generator and lights on and you are ready to go.---Derrol in Texas---(Case LA Propane)

I'm also working on a 49 LA. The starter works and so does the Gen. (6 volt) but I haven't hooked it up just yet. Need a 6 volt bastery. Available here at PeaVey Mart. My schematics show negative ground.

Careful there. We used 12 volts on LA long term and finally broke the end housing off the starter. 6 volt is fine, they don't need to spin very fast.

Thanks Ed for the info neg ground will work need to get a ground strap as mine not there and a high cranking amp 6 volt battery and give it a shot Paul
