Case David Brown 885 Crank removal question

i need to remove my crank to regrind journals, question is do i really need to split tractor or can i just pull motor cylinders from frame, im guessing the split is so i can remove flywheel, if i can avoid this id like to as the tractor has a bucket on the front and mounts to rear as well, looking to do it the easiest way, thanks in advance

Earlier 6 speeds I think you could get it out without splitting by pulling the transmission cover, PTO unit-cardan shaft, and the intermediate shaft that goes from the clutch to transmission. Way more work than just dropping the loader and splitting it.

never split a tractor before, but i guess ill have to give it a shot

i guess my biggest question looking at the tractor and reading manual, is that behind the block and under the tank is a " clutch housing cover" and it appears that unless i take that off or loosen up bolts the front section cant be moved forward as flywhhel would hit housing, any body know this tractor or work on one with engine removal

That housing stays with the rear half when you split it.

for an fyi as i split it, the upper half of rear bell housing had to come off to acess 4 bolts holding 2 halves

My bad, on the bigger and later tractors those bolts are on the outside.
