That answers my question bout the knives. In the back at the bottom of the cutter housing there was a tool or something that went across the unit below the cutterhead. It was about a 3/8 or 1/2" rod about 3' long with a short hex shaft, about 3" long across one end. It went through 2 holes in the housing and was held in with a cotter pin. Any idea what that is?

If I remember right { long time ago } back when I was a kid .. we had a chopper { not a Case ]
Anyway when we had to replace or sharpen the knifes ... dad told NEVER do anything untill we put a rod thur the housing to KEEP the knifes from turning
Maybe thats what it's for .... I'm sure someone will say for sure if that's what iy's used for .,..
