..and I was worried?

Was planning on going to a farm auction today to buy or at least keep out low bidders on a late '70,s Case 1070. Mid 6,s on hours , power shift worked good, cab but no air or heat and rear tires were worn out. Good tractor. I didn't need it but was going to be mine anywhere south of $4000. Had to help son in law take load of equipment to another sale held on Sat in same location and started freezing rain so farm auction went faster and our haul went slower. Needless to say I was too late to bid on Case. Got home and got on net for auction results. Was hoping it went sky high. It and a White 2-105 both brought $8000.00 ea. They were far from pristeen and both needed rear tires. I think people are finally appreciating these for the good solid tractor they are. Incidentally , the White looked like a wimp beside the case. Same class and hp tractors but White has 358 cu in Perkins and Case has 451 cu in Case engine. Which will make their 110 (+ or -) easier and longer? No brainer to me.
Just thought I would post this since it seems there are a few that think $3500 is top dollar on these.

The Perkins is a 354. It would easily rate in the top 10 diesel engines ever. Not the same animal as a 1070 when it comes to torque, but I wouldn't be so quick to discount it as a quality machine.

I have had both for 25 years. The 1070 will pull much more than the White and do it easier with less fuel. The Perkins sounds good, but sucks fuel compared to the Case and when it is loaded the 2-105 can't hold traction.

The 1070 did alright, with worn out 34's. The 2-105 wouldn't be to high on my "tractor to own" list. The 354 was a good engine but slapping a turbo on it and giving it more fuel led to reliability issues. Oliver and Allis sure liked pushing small cubic inch engines hard. If I had to pick a 90hp tractor that wasn't a Case I would look real hard at a 2-85. Good tractors. Easy on and off, as a open staition. And all the controls are way better than anything IH had (throttle, shifting, remote levers, pto). OK I'm done. Thanks for the 1070 pic!!!!!!!!

A year ago, in these parts, that would have been a $2500-4000 tractor. This year things have been different, ones that were $2500 last year are $7500, the only change is more rust. I have been looking for myself and ended up buying a project tractor, and planning on fixing it now, rather than buying one that I know is going to need considerable work in the near future.

There have been a few consignment sale tractors that went reasonably, but they are a total pig in a poke.

I would have went with the White not the best tractor but a lot better than the shifting the cases had those are very jumpy gear to gear keep and eye out for an IH or JD much better resale than either of those just my thoughts.
