9 and 1070 one piece Muffler

The muffler I'm referring to is the third one, the skinny one. Part no. A64947. Does anyone have one on a tractor yet? I have not seen one for about 20 yrs. Used from ser. no. 8693001 to 8708982, not very long in use. The story I was told was that CASE never got them OK'd for a certain sound level and had to discontinue them. That is when the oval ones got used in production. Anyone else know a different story on these short lived mufflers? I tried to buy one back in the 80's and there was none to be had according to the local dealer. Rod.

I always thought it looked like the same one that was on a 8600-9600 Ford. I've got one on a 2090. Its part of a kit that Du-al had for the exhaust

I do have one good used for sale and they were used during that serial number you mention and unless you cut off your hood this is the only muffler that would fit through that small hole on the hood of the 1070. jc

We had one on a 1974 970. It was the 1st white tractor Winamac Sales got in, had cab with air on it and 18.4 x 38 tires.

3rd one looks like glass pak,,? last one on rite is on my 1070 ...the outside baffle faces the cab and cuts down noise ,,

This is what you are looking for I believe. It's on a one owner 2800 hr 970. I would say it's original but who ever knows after 40 yrs?

Outside baffle faces the precleaner and keeps the plastic from melting.

Rod, I acquired this salvage 1070 tractor last year and it had the glasspack looking mufler on it. Later tractor, oval muffler hole in the hood.

yes, i remember them. i put one on my white 970 that i had. when you ordered the the skinny one it changed to the ovel muffler with the extension (second muffler) to get it passed the small hole in the hood, so you didn"t have to cut the hood out. (looked like crap) if i remember right thats the way the last 870"s were made ovel muffler sat on top of the hood.

Rod,
We sold several 9/1070s with that style muffler. We also had a C65 Chebby Cabover (in pic.) with a 427 engine and I had a pair of those mufflers that came straight up between the cab and deck. It sure sounded nice. No chinchy cracking sounds, just BIB BLOCK Chevy.

Sorry about pic. YT wont recognize my handle or password to post pic.

I'm sure it was cheaper but surprised some one was able to get the glasspack muff after the factory oval gave out.

No I don't. I really liked them. They didn't block the view down the hood, and they sounded real nice. I hated that stupid extension peice you had to use when they discontinued them, as the other mufflers wouldn't fit in the small hole in the hood.
