recently I was using my 430 triple range and i noticed it was binding in high range especially in 4th gear I took all three trans covers off and checked all the bearings and could not find anything wrong, I was wondering if anyone has ever had the same problem and what could be the cause.

Please describe what you mean when you say binding. In high range 4th, a 25mph road gear you may have a brake draging and bogging it down. What does it do in HR 1&2 which are tillage gears. If a brake is dragging you sholld be able to feel heat buildup on the brake covers. It could be that wour carb adjustments are off also and the engine just isn't getting enough fuel to respond the the load you are applying.

I have taken the breaks apart and found that the right hand side had been dragging.

thanks for the help.

Loren, this reminds me, when I got my 630 tin all painted up and back on I had the ole girl at a local show with some of our other club members. We had to park our trucks and trailers 2-3 blocks away and drive the tractors back up to the display area. When I had the tractor in high range and 4th it seemed like the governor wasn't working and the engine would bog down and not fully come up to RPM and speed. Did OK in 3rd though. Didn't think about brakes but it didn't seem like it was a brake drag because it didn't pull to one side or the other. Could governor be messing up since it sat for quite awhile?

i will throw this out for CONSIDERATION to the original poster and j. g., as well as the adk guy ,..when my 430 had too much oil in the tranny from the 3 pt hydro seal leaking in there,, it was nearlya inch from the top ,,it would lug in 4th direct ,,but on a cold day i stuck that 430 in 4th hi and it quickly heated that tranny up and was devil to make the moderate hills ,i was thinkin i needed to change fuel filters ,til i felt the heat on the trANNY ,,, THEN I KNEW ,, best regards jim

Really good to have you back posting Loren. My bet is with your advice. I"ve had the same situation on my 310, the engine lugs down in 4th, high range upgrade.

Good point, I will pull the dip stick and check. May need to replace the 3pt lift piston seals but I don't think its leaking that bad as it takes several days for the arms to drop.
