Case sc cam gear

Anyone know if there is a spacer behind the cam gear, on a case sc engine? The gear has been rubbing the block on mine. Also anyone know what the piston ring end gap should be with 3 comp. Rings? Thanks for any help

Its been awhile since I tore an sc engine apart, but I think there is a fiber washer that goes between the cam and the block behind the gear. Im sure someone else will chime in and tell you more, or call john saeli and see if he has any. hth jstpa

Not sure abt the SC but the DC had a fibre washer that was prone to breaking up and falling into the pan, in that instance DonL has a waswher of brass that is much more durable, call him and ask.

Wow!thanks for those specs. Maybe I can make one if nothing else. Do you happen to know what is is made of? Copper brass maybe? Thanks again for the reply.

My '44 SC had a brass washer that was about the same demention as indicated above behind the cam gear, I don't remember what my '54 SC had, we didn't take the cam gear out but I think it was the same. (My $0.29 worth. jal-SD)

I was thinking the ring gap should be 0.020". I found this:
Most piston ring manufacturers recommend a minimum end gap of .004 inches times the bore diameter for the top piston compression ring. So for a 4 inch bore, the standard end gap would be .016 inches.

For the 2nd compression ring, the standard end gap recommendation for most stock engines is typically .005 in. x the bore diameter. So for a 4 inch bore, the minimum end gap on the 2nd ring would be .020 inches.

If it's not a new sleeve, check the cylinder to see if it is tapered. The ring gap may close up.

Here is info from Case SC service manual. Note the fiber washer is mentioned twice, in the script for replacing the camshaft.
