Hi Denverslim,
I may have missed it, but how is your PTO clutch repair coming ?
What did you find when you got it apart ?

Sorry, I probably didn't post enough about it when it was finished.

Well, it really wasn't as bad as I was worried about. Pull the right fender off, of course, to give yourself room.
Use the tips the fellows gave me like a couple of long bolts to pull the back off. (I cut the heads off of 10 inch carriage bolts) Use a cherry picker to hold it up as you pull it out. Don't be a dummy like me and forget to follow the manuals advice to remove the PTO handle. I didn't understand why this had to be done until I couldn't get it to come out. Then, by removing the shifter handle, it allows the shaft to turn and it comes right out! (When all else fails, follow the directions.)

I found the clutch plates to be all warped and got new ones from John Saeli. I the replacement of the new clutch plates wasn't too bad, I suggest you wait till the new ones arrive before you disassemble it so you can get all your spacers back where they go. John sent me out a complete kit with all the plates and spacers.

The "put together" was actually easier than the removal. Again use the long bolts, look through the inspection cover on the right side, make sure the shaft is in the right place and "bingo" it falls right back in.

Maybe the trickyest part is the clutch adjustment after it is all in. My 830 requires you to turn the clutch COUNTER CLOCKWISE as it has left-hand threads. The operation goes like this--locate the lock pin so it can go counter clockwise by turning the fan to turn the engine over. Pull the pin adust as far as you can, then turn the fan again so you can pull the pin again and adjust some more. I probably had to turn the entire clutch around (360 degrees) 4 or 5 times to get the required "snap" of the shifter stick to disengage. The operation is even slower because you have to put the cover hole plate back on to "try" the handle.
If this sounds confusing let me know I'll be glad to do a better job of discribing the operation with pictures.
