Pics from my grandparents retirement sale in 1991. My grandparents and the local Case dealer (LaPean Imp) were good friends. One of my favorite memories is coming home from school in the spring and our yard was filled with Case tractors for field work. It looked like a Case buyer's guide. Not pictured is the 1470. Grandpa went to the shed sale day morning to get the tractors out,(tractors couldn't sit outside over night) the 1470 had a flat tire. He had 4 new tires put on the day of the sale. Not for show, that's how things were done. Eric

thats impressive.Looks like he took very good care of his tractors. I bet it made for a good sale.Very nice line up.did any of the tractors stay in the neighborhood?

Eric,
The machinery does look really nice all lined up. I think it is sad when farmers sell a lifetime of hard work in a matter of hours or so. I hope your grandparents did ok with the sale. I just know I would have a hard time seeing everything that I worked so hard for over the years leave the farm forever. Thanks for the great pics. Did anyone in your family buy anything back from the sale? Just curious.

The 870 and loader stayed local, the 2470 and 1070 went to Iowa, the 1570 stayed local and the guy destroyed it (pathetic), the DC a guy bought and repainted it, 1470 stayed local for a while then went to Arkansaw, I don't know where the 930,1210 and 900 ended up.

Eric, I heard of a mechanic working on your grandpa's Gehl? chopper that didn't fully remove a guard. Took out some of the bolts and then bent the guard out of the way. Did this right in front of him. I bet he almost blew a gasket! It wasn't me but a guy from the IH dealer.

LOL. Never heard that one. I bet he flipped out. The chopper was probable close to new too! They had tried a few different brand choppers behind the 1570.

Kurt and Don, I was 14. Yea, I was sad to see the tractors leave. I loved walking the sheds. Dad bought the corn planter, we already had a 1070. If I got to pick one? The 1570 for sure. It still puzzles me that as much as he liked the machinery, that he didn't want to keep something like the 900 or 930? Maybe at that age in life you look forward to other things???? The sale went fine. It would be hard to see things leave.
