Hydraulic problem

I'm having problem with the gasket at the base G10876 leaking. I made a gasket with a thin paper gasket material I had which was some automotive gasket material and it only lasted about 8 hours. Then I went to town and the guy at the auto parts store which is normally very good sold me some cork gasket material. I had doubts but I went ahead and made one and installed it and when I torqued the bolts down it appears the cork almost squished out. Does anyone think this stuff will work or should I change it out and if so with what?

The little peices of cork will flake off and get into the hydraulic pump and valves, especially if the pickup tube had never been fitted with a screen.
I would go to a CNH dealer and order the proper gasket or get some Locktite form-a-gasket and apply a thin layer to the gasket area.

Stephen, cork is good for something like a pressed steel inspection cover on the rearend of a car/truck. It allows for some unevenness in the 2 mating parts. Heavy paper gaskets are better for 2 machined surfaces of steel or iron cast parts that don't flex of give any when tightening the mounting bolts. I'd try for the gasket from the Case dealer. A common mistake in making gaskets from bulk material is using too thick a material and the oil capillaries out. For a machined surface like that use 1/32" material like Fel Pro karropak sold at some auto parts stores.

Use a light coating of sealant like Loren"s Locktite or Permatex Aviation. Let the sealant get tacky before assembly.

Loren is exactly right. These gaskets are still available form Case at reasonable prices. Install the correct one and never give it another thought.

I've done this job some time ago and it bugged me until I looked it up. This is from the Case 300B manual. You probably will need multiple gaskets to get the correct gear backlash. You may be hanging up on the gears now.

Backlash with dial indicator or feel. I made my own gaskets and used sealant on the final.

Not far behind you, and the relief valve in the engine oil pump, and some sludge in the oil cavities are giving me grief again. How are you doing?
Loren

Doing much better Loren, meds pretty much straightened out. Don't expect to croak in the near future anyway.

Thanks everyone for the information. I was under the impression the gasket was not available. I will go to Case on Monday and see if I can get one.
