VAC side differential bearing snap ring VT 3477

I posted awhile back about a lot of play in my VAC 14 differential shaft:

http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=case&th=220661

I determined the previous person to have it apart mixed up the left and right bearing carriers.

1 of my carriers has a spacer snap ring (VT 3477). According to the parts manual, this is correct, however the service manual shows this snap ring on both sides.

If there is suppose to be one on both sides it would definitely explain why I had 1/8" movement in the shaft.

So, is there suppose to be one on each side, and if so, does anyone have a Timken part number?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Look very closely in the two parts breakdowns that I have posted. Older tranny and newer.
First the older. Notice the RH & LH quills are different. The VTA588RH quill has the snapring. The VTA589LH does not. In the quanity used colum, notice the VT3477 snapring is (1) in both styles. Same with newer tranny. VTA2798 RH quill includes snapring and race. The VTA2799 LH quill has bearing only. The same single VT3477 was caried over into the late tranny.

Thanks for the response.

Again it was confusing because the later drawing shows the left hand side gear with the snap ring. I did however put it back together with the snap ring on the right side and adjusted shims for about .008 backlash on the ring gear so I think I'm okay.
