Thanks for reading first! I have a 224 that needs an engine and I know where I can get a K241 out of a simplicity. I know its only ten hp but the question is do the kohler engines from cub/simplicity/john deere/etc. work for a case? Do they have the front shaft too? The other tractor is not close by so I cannot look at it handy so I thought I'd ask first. Maybe the engines for case were custom made. Thanks for any info you guys might have.

you need to compare the spec #'s to see if the one you are looking at has the same shaft size throttle linkage ect to be sure it would fit, the pto clutch on a Case tractor is a bolt on piece but I would be more concerened if the rear crankshaft is the same and I am not sure what you will use it for but a 10hp is weak compared tot he 14hp unit, can yours be overhauled or is the block junk? the Kolhers when boared do live a long life and are worth repairing in my mind if possible cnt

The Simplicity engine will fit if you switch your oil pan, crankshaft, connecting rod and flywheel. They use a shallow oil pan which means a short rod dipper. What is wrong with the engine that was in your tractor? Find some that are close with tapped flywheel and cut a crankshaft off you need to have that short oil pan or the hood won't close.

Thanks for quick response. My engine is using alot of oil and the governor is now giving issues its just time for a rebuild. This tractor is well used and I got it for free from a guy who just wanted to get rid of it. It is in pretty rough shape I was thinking if it was an easy fit I'd do it or else probably just part it out to keep my other ones moving and mowing etc. I totally agree its worth rebuilding too this was just a little different deal here. P.S will a sleeve hitch from a 446 fit a 224?

I don't know if I'd part the old girl out. For about $300 you can have it bored out and get a new piston and back together running like new! The governor might just be the spring stretching with age. They're simple and cheap engines to work on.

Well maybe I will then. I think the internals of the gov are messed up but it would be coming apart anyway. Thanks

I overhauled the 14 HP in my 444. The aftermarket kit from ebay included new piston, valves, rod and everything else for $100. Cost me another $100 to bore the cylinder and turn the crank. So I got a "new" engine for $250 or so.
