the last 870 we sold a 74 yes white had the open wheels they were std wheels the solids were optional I myself perfer the look of the open ones

my 770's was damaged/repaired before i got it it looks like it was run loose and it cracked, so far the repair is holding well

The one I know of were mounted plows turning hard on a sidehill headland. That 2000# hammer hanging on the 3 point has a considerable amount of energy. Same for top link mounts...

that sounds very reasonable, mine broke right at the clamp area up to the spoke, they PO used it for pulling a balewagon 95% of its life
