I don't know if it would do any good or not. Are you looking for power or a novelty? My LA is about 75hp with an overbore kit and propane head.
 
it will work, do your homework and match the turbo to the engine, I would draw through the carb and not blow through it, or find a throttle body injection set up and adapt it

Doug is right on the money. Grabbing just any old turbo is not gonna get you where you want to be. Matching a turbo involves a lot of math and formulas to get you in the ballpark. The size compressor needed is determined by the rpm range and the desired boost pressure, the exhaust housing can then be changed to tailor the boost to the rpm range desired. Matching is a science.

Back in the day we had a turbo DC that would pull 3rd gear with orchard sprockets at very high rpm with a specially designed turbo for the engine and rpm range we wanted to run. It is fun to learn, I hope you follow thru.

Doug is right on the design , suck thru the carb, the HP ( boost pressure)can be limited by sizing the carb to restrict intake volume. Blowing thru the carb requires a system to increase fuel pressure as boost comes up as when boost is equal to the fuel pressure from the tank, gas ceases to flow.

A more complex system would use a waste gate to dump exhaust around the turbo when desired boost is reached.

im just wanting to play a little i did a propane tractor it was a 190 allis went from 80 hp to 160 hp used a turbo from a 190xt work great blow air through carb i thought i would play with my la just for fun who knows jerry
 
While we are on the topic of LA engines, can the kerosine/gas
head be modified to give higher compression?

I have seen suggestions for using LP gas heads, but I have never
seen one here in Australia. All LAs are getting rare here.

Also, what are good sleeves and pistons to use to get more
power out of the LA without spending hugh dollars?

There is some tractor pulling here, but not a big sport as in USA.
Just wondering what it would take to make up a competitive LA
 
the problem with blowing through a gas carb is that the fuel pressure is directly linked to boost, Mel could explain this better but as boost increases you need more fuel pressure and it becomes a viscious cycle unless you put the carb in a pressurized box, an lp carb doesn't have a needle and seat so it isn't an issue with lp
 
Bob, Some guys around here put 5 1/8 pistons in La's for pulling for a cheap build and they ran pretty good, I believe they were Cummins pistons. The compression will come up with increased displacement. There are some good cam grinders in the US that would accent the bigger displacement. The lp head is supposed to be about the best flowing head for the La tractors.
 
I have an LP head on mine with M&W's and she rolls right along with a 5 bottom or 16' disk. The thing is absolutely fricken loud though!
