Heres another one of me discing in 1970. And then a pictures of sliding the new axel in, in 1973. Axel broke when dad was applying anhydrous. Dad said it was a pretty sudden drop!

too much torque ,or did you run too hi on the outside dual ,looks like you had it set up rite ,smaller tire outside , looks like you bought a shiney new axle ,i am guessing 475 dollars priced in 1970 ,, btw,, that 1970 pix looks like my brothers and me back in those days ,we would pull wrenches all nite and go to school and rest up... Duane , rekn' we are cuzn's ? LOl ,,
 
Just courious, why did you folks pull the whole deck and fenders off, just to replace the axle??
we replaced perhaps a half dozen broken axles in 30 and 70 series tractors. Two of them we did in the field with the aid of a FEL on another tractor, and hyd jacks and a sheet of plywood. It was as easy as trying to get the tractor out of the field and on the rollback, and back to the shop to replace it and then have to truck it back to the farm.

Loren,good question!When the axel broke the tractor came down and the wheel caught the fender. The fender and deck got bent and came of to get straitened out.You got me thinking about getting it to the shop.Dad had repair business on the farm in the 60's and still had a Studebaker tow truck that we used to get the 830 to the shop. Sounds like we could be cuz'ns.The best was when dad said " going to have keep you home from school to help in the field"
 
Jon,dad traded that disk off in middle 70's.Friend stopped this summer w/ a kewanee disk behind his pickup. He got it from an estate 10 miles away.I recognized it as our old disk by some welding dad had done on it.They also had a 18' Case digger(built by Glenco)that I got.Should be fun to hook it behind one of my Case's this spring.What part of MN are you in?
