After 5 or 6 months of soaking with different formulas and tapping with little hammer, three cylinders free. The other one I got a little more aggressive with. After fire and bigger hammer, the sleeve started to rise out of block with piston. Any advice, what next? Brian

I was thinking about your project today, wondering how you were coming along with those broken studs. Looks like you"re making good progress!

I may have a sleeve I can spare if it comes to that. We"d need to verify what size you have in it now to confirm. My spare isn"t perfect but should hone up well enough. You can always put the word out on this site and you might find enough to make up a good set. That"s where I got mine. Then again, check with John Saeli I'd bet he can get you a new set.

I encourage you replace the O-rings in those sleeves since you already have it down that far. Sure would be frustrating to put it back together only to find coolant leaking around them.

Hope to see it up and running soon!

Unbolt the rod, and push the piston and sleeve the rest of the way out of the block. Take it to a press. I had a DC do that and by the time I got the piston out, the sleeve cracked.

This worked for me - Pull the sleeve piston assy out and place it on a welding bench OUTDOORS. With the rod pointed up fill the sleeve with fuel oil to a point 1/2 inch above the piston. Heat the sleeve evenly until the oil startes to boil continue 5 mim, remove the heat,in the morning piston should tap right out.

Sounds crazy but, I used the head gasket as a template and made a piece of 1/4 inch steel to cover the cylinder using the head bolts. Then drilled and bolted a steering wheel puller to the steel. Put a piece of steel on top of the piston and used the puller to push the piston down. Put some good pressure onto the puller and a couple taps to the top of the puller freed it instantly.
