Dutchman 01-17-2013 16:36:24 69.66.113.248 Report to Moderator	I need to replace the electric motor { which I have } on my air compressor .. I want the compressor to turn a little FASTER .. it has a 5 1/2 inch pulley on it now .. thinking of going 6 inch or do I have to go 5 inch ... ,. Need more Speed in reply to Dutchman, 01-17-2013 16:36:24   Putting a larger pully on the motor will speed up the compressor. Think of the circumprance of the pullys. To get one revolution of the compressor, you need the circumprance of the motor pully to travel the same distance. Check your owners manual to sure you are using the correct RPM motor, and the maximum speed you can run the compressor. If you can run the compressor faster, you will probably need a larger HP motor. Calender is Great! Got two, one for me and I think I'll take the second by the local CaseIH dealer so they can see what real Case tractors look like! [Reply]  [No Email]

Need more Speed in reply to Dutchman, 01-17-2013 16:36:24   To change the rpm you would use a bigger pulley on the motor or a smaller one on the pump. My thoughts is the compressor has been engineered to run at a certain speed, probably with a motor running 3450 rpm. I bet if you raise the rpm you will damage the pump. Also if you change the gear ratio you will over-task the motor at start-up and probably burn the new motor up. If it were me I would leave the pulleys to the factory specifications.
